The Story of I’m Yours by Jason Mraz

‘I’m Yours’ is a song by American singer-songwriter Jason Mraz, released in 2008 as the first single from his third studio album We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.. The song was originally released on a limited edition EP called Extra Credit as a demo in 2005 to promote his second studio album Mr. A–Z. This demo quality is both present in the artwork and in the I’m Yours Chords Guitar is based on, hand drawn and simple as they each are respectively.

It was performed in his 2004 and 2005 gigs and already became a crowd favorite before its release. ‘I’m Yours’ was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 51st Grammy Awards.

‘I’m Yours’ was a huge commercial success in the United States. The song peaked at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 76 weeks on the chart, breaking the record for the longest charting song on the chart.

This record has, however, since been broken and is currently held by The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’, which spent 90 weeks on the chart. As of January 2013, it is the tenth best selling digital song of all time in the US, selling over 6 million downloads, and 12.2 million worldwide. In July 2021, it surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify, and I’m Yours Guitar Chords remains Mraz’s biggest US hit single to date and his most popular set of chords to date.

The Lyrics for ‘I’m Yours’ to Sing Along to

Given that the entirety of the song can be played with just seven chords, it would be pertinent to explore the lyrics in more detail, though before we go on the chords will be detailed below:

The I’m Yours Guitar Chords: G – D – Em – C – A7 – Dsus4 – Bm

Well, you done done me in, you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill, but you’re so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks
Now I’m trying to get back
Before the cool done run out
I’ll be giving it my bestest
And nothing’s gonna stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it’s again my turn
To win some or learn some
But I won’t hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I’m yours
Hmm (hey, hey)
Well, open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and, damn, you’re free
And look into your heart and you’ll find love, love, love, love
Listen to the music of the moment, people dance and sing
We’re just one big family
And it’s our God-forsaken right to be loved, loved, loved, loved, loved
So I won’t hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I’m sure
There’s no need to complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate, I’m yours
Do, do, do, do you, but do you, do you, do, do, but do you want to come on?
Scooch on over closer, dear
And I will nibble your ear
A-soo-da-ba-ba-ba-ba-bum
Whoa-oh-oh
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-whoa-whoa-whoa
Uh-huh, mmm-hmm
I’ve been spending way too long checking my tongue in the mirror
And bending over backwards just to try to see it clearer
But my breath fogged up the glass
And so I drew a new face and I laughed
I guess what I’ve been saying is there ain’t no better reason
To rid yourself of vanities and just go with the seasons
It’s what we aim to do
Our name is our virtue
But I won’t hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I’m yours
Well, open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and, damn, you’re free
And look into your heart, and you’ll find that the sky is yours
So please don’t, please don’t, please don’t
There’s no need to complicate
‘Cause our time is short
This, oh this, this is our fate, I’m yours
Oh, I’m yours
Oh, I’m yours
Oh, whoa, baby, do you believe I’m yours?
You best believe, you best believe I’m yours, mmm-hmm
